Welcome to Throwback Thursday, a weekly series showcasing an album, single, music video or performance of a bygone era and its personal and/or cultural significance.

I usually breakdown a song’s or album’s personal impact and cultural relevance in-depth ⎯⎯ but Kelly Clarkson‘s acoustic performance of “Sober,” off her watershed My December album, speaks louder than I ever could. I only get one life, and I’ve got to get this right. “Sometimes, you’ve got to pick the people out of your life that are cancers for you,” she introduced in front of a slew of diehard fans. Put yourself first. Do things that make you happy. Live like you’ll die tomorrow. And never look back. “Picked all my weeds but kept the flowers.”
