Taste Test: A Day’s Wait cooks up mellow delight with ‘Cycles’
The Canadian band mixes lofi and dream pop for a melodic relaxation
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
I’m a big fan of the lofi indie style, I find it can be the perfect mix of raw and off the cuff, yet musical and smooth in its production. ‘Cycles’ is a perfect example of such a song. The vocals, guitar and drum track were created by A Day’s Wait, whilst the more electronic elements and the production was done by Day Wave aka Jackson Philips. At 2 minutes 50 seconds, A Day’s Wait has made the perfect pocket sized song that pokes a window into someone else’s world. The mix of acoustic and electric strings provide the perfect backdrop for the singer’s cascading harmonies. All of these features combined make for a warm, relaxing aesthetic. Despite the bittersweet story of being away from the people you love, this is a lovely and mellow song to unwind to.
