Nashville has a magic to it. From its rich musical heritage, that seems to vibrate throughout the city, to a bevy of hard-working, compassionate people, Music City invites you into its orbit sooner or later. Long before the pandemic, folk singer-songwriter Abigail Lapell wound her way down from Toronto to Nashville for the first time. It was last year, but now, it feels like another lifetime ago. So, a song like “Halfway to Mexico,” a gentle, wistful tune dedicated to her trip, feels earnest and soothing. The accompanying visual pieces together cityscape views and footage of Lapell perched on her doorstep, strumming her guitar and reflecting back to that time. Lapell’s voice is enought to put you in a trance.
