If movies have taught us anything, it’s that we can never run away from our problems – they’ll always find you. Cutting your losses might buy you some time, but sooner or later, that price must be paid in full. Out of Durham, North Carolina, jamming Americana man Alan Barnosky is fully aware that his decision to set out on the dusty gravel road will come back to haunt him. But the potential of freedom is too alluring. “Lonesome Road” jangles like a Jimmie Rodgers tune, seeing him discard his heaviness and many problems to the wind. He hikes his thumb and looks to the horizon for the kind of new beginning for which he desperately longs, and the sun’s tender hand is is only guide. “If you ever get trapped / If you get unlucky, get on down that lonesome road,” he advises. Sometimes, you’ve just gotta take a risk and start fresh.
“Lonesome Road” is lifted from Barnoksy’s new EP of the same name, out everywhere January 17.
