Interview: Alis Vibe hypnotizes with cosmic pop music
The pop singer talks karma, lessons learned, and banger “I Want It All.”
Alis Vibe‘s “I Want It All” pummels you across the face. Its electricity both shocks and charms you into a state of being. You vault into a higher plane of existence, with Alis Vibe as your guide. Across the cosmos, you turn and twirl, dazzling as brilliantly as the stars. Well, that’s the experience of listening to her music, at least. Embedded within the glistening exterior, there lies a message about self-expression and confidence that oozes between flecks of synths and percussion.
In more ways than one, “I Want It All” documents her own journey through life. “If you keep working on yourself, the more aware you become, the more you’ll start accepting your thoughts, your feelings, and your body,” she shares with B-Sides & Badlands. “Self-acceptance is a journey and is a challenge, too, but we’re all free to embrace the phases of this journey in order to keep thriving.”
And goodness, she is absolutely thriving these days — and proves that pushing forward in life is the only way to go. “I’ve never settled, even when it was hard, even when I was the only one believing in what I believed,” she adds. “I trust my intuition, and I do my best to stay true to myself and my dreams.”
A self-described “emotions seeker,” Alis Vibe sculpts the song out of a general feeling “when it comes to love” while also outlining “how I wanna feel about every aspect of my life,” she says. Musically, the song zips across the universe as though in orbit. Courtesy of collaborators Damien Horne and producer Dillon Pace, the production and instrumentation further elevate the pointed, toothy lyrics. It is an epic experience.
“I Want It All” anchors a brand new EP, titled Reborn, out today.
Below, Alis Vibe discusses hard truths, lessons learned, and destiny.
What’s been the hardest truth you’ve learned about life?
Life is unpredictable, so be good cause the Universe is watching you! Also, no expectations, but great faith.
A song like ‘I Want It All’ makes you feel alive. Where does it fit onto the bigger project?
My EP is all about love, freedom, awareness, faith, and self-expression. I would say that ‘I Want It All’ to perfectly match all these topics and musically it’s the dance bomb track of the whole project!
What have you learned most about yourself through the process?
That I will always learn something new about myself. I keep discovering new shades. The deeper I go, the more that I find. But the biggest realization was becoming aware that my creative potential is infinite and that I can always rely on my inner child to keep it alive.
Growing up in Milan, how were you introduced to music? And what artists and albums define your childhood?
Milano is a great music city. There’s pretty [much] everything; that’s why my childhood was surrounded by the ’90s early ’00s pop hits, and a lot of Italian songwriters from the ’70s. If I have to mention a few, I would say Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Madonna, Avril Lavigne, Kylie Minogue, and Italian artists like Mina, Lunapop, and Battisti.
I know you play ukulele. Did you ever consider another type of music, like folk or indie? By the way, when did you start playing?
I love folk! I believe our music follows our personal and creative journey, so right now I feel aligned with what I’m doing, but who knows what the future holds! I grew up with soul, blues, and folk actually. I started playing uku a few years ago, after a few years of guitar. I used to play the piano when I was a kid, I’m getting back to that!
Was it easy to develop your own sound – paying respect to the past while forging something uniquely your own?
It’s been a journey! I loved seeing my transformation and building up my artistic identity. It wasn’t easy, but it was fun!
In the song, you mention things like karma and creation. What are your thoughts on what’s beyond the present? Is there a cosmic design? And do you believe in things like fate, destiny, and karma?
For sure, we’re part of a bigger picture, and I love calling it the ‘Divine Plan’. I believe Karma is the only universal law that regulates our lives, and our destiny is based on the actions and thoughts we generate. If what we put out there is based on love, we’ll be rewarded with abundance, joy, and love. The universe is always listening and watching. We gotta be good.
