Taste Test: ALITA delivers the 2020 sex jam with new song, ‘Bodies’
The pop singer-songwriter invites the listener to find freedom in sexual expression.

ALITA had something to express. A weirdly taboo subject for women to write about, sex-positivity was heavy on her mind. When her male collaborators, god love ’em, may not have been able to connect in the right way, she instead opted to write a song herself. “Bodies” slides along a slip-n-slide groove, her heart pounding right out of her chest. She’s unafraid, and more importantly, unashamed to talk about sex. “The touch of your hand / The smell of your skin / It’s a feeling… universal,” she sings. Production starts intimately enough but waves soon lap and roll over her, as she invites the listener to find the freedom of sexual expression, too. “I’m down, down to explore,” she later coos. The melody runs hot, and while we may all be in quarantine, which the visual appropriately accommodates, we can at least stage our very own fantasy.
