I love songs that are designed to transport you to another place entirely, and Anja Kotar does this excellently with “Midnight in Paris”. This peppy single features a beat and instrumentals that makes you want to skip down the pavement – it conveys a sense of joy and happiness that you can melt into. The electro-pop marvel notes all of the small things to take pleasure in, from “lipstick stains on tall glasses of wine” to visiting the Notre Dame even though the roof is leaking. After the upheaval and isolation of Covid, “Midnight in Paris” delights in the social aspects of Paris, from picnics to dances. The tone throughout is as light and airy as a bottle of champagne, with Kotar showing off her prowess with vocal vibratos. If you ever want a song to cheer you up, put on “Midnight in Paris”.
