Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

An unruly kind of power sprouts from fractures and bruises to the soul. Life’ll surely knock you to the cold, hard ground, and those who manage to scratch and crawl back onto their feet are a warrior type. New York’s gnarly rock powerhouse Anna Rose fittingly wraps her voice as gauze around her gushing wounds, stitching up the gashes with a sharp vocal needle. With “Broken is Beautiful,” she initially exposes her injuries, the skin red and swollen, before she lets herself finally heal through time’s soothing medication. “No one’s gonna hear me / No one would be believe me / If I told you all my demons, all my twisted little feelings / Would you even hear me,” she howls, her voice pinging against a glittering, yet gritty, wall-to-wall thrashing of electric guitar. Rose is an exemplary storyteller whose voice rumbles from its deep-chested rasp.
