“Slow motion panic, it’s a subtle sort of freak out / No one knows exactly how it’s gonna shake out,” crows Anthony da Costa. His new song “Slow Motion Panic” is the perfect mid-tempo, mid-pandemic bop, a folky tune suited up with a soft, gentle glistening just warm enough to tingle the soul. “Nothing but time in the world / But there’s no more time in the world,” he later observes. It’s funny because it’s true. We feel like we have all the time in the world these days, but in reality, time marches mercilessly on as it has always done. We’ve just been oblivious to it. In the accompanying visual, filmed by Jacqueline Justice, da Costa embraces that very visceral, unsettling, and moody pandemic feeling, a flood of emotions hitting the screen and oozing ever downward.
“Slow Motion Panica” samples da Costa’s new album, of the same name, out later this year.
