Recovery is a slow process, and it’s not always linear, especially when a broken heart is involved. Ashley Strongarm mixes evocative lyrics, beautiful guitar and a slow thoughtful beat to reflect both the old wounds, and the newfound confidence that the she is building for herself. The song opens with the singer struggling with her feelings, as she sings: “Oh well I saw you in my sleep last night I swear/Can never tell if it’s a dream or it’s a nightmare/Either way it’s hell”. By the end of the song though, the tone takes on a more hopeful atmosphere: “Well I’ve always heard you made your bed now lie in it/But the sun is coming up and I’m no longer sleeping in”. Strongarm nails the vocals, both in pitch and emotionality, brilliantly outlining the journey from someone who dedicates their life “for you”, to someone who is moving on “from you”.
