Taste Test: Autumn Knight scrawls a lush love letter to Nashville with ‘Outline’
The Nashville upstart pays homage to Nashville with a new pop-country hybrid song.

At dusk, the Nashville cityscape absolutely sparkles. The pale sun in a blanket of roses and orange petals cast a glowing silhouette, as concrete buildings and glass peek out of the descending night as ghosts. And if you’re a ramblin’ musician seeking inspiration, the crispness of new streets weaving out of the jungle can strike the appropriate chord. Autumn Knight, who has been toiling up and down Music Row for the past three years, finally finds her sonic footing with her new single “Outline,” on which she pedals between pop and country quite seamlessly. “New city / New beginning / I found myself in you,” she sings, cooing a love letter straight to the city itself. Acoustic guitar floods in between the caramel pop syrup but immediately evaporating and only bubbling in small smoke rings. “This new script / Different scene that I feel inside / Makes me turn back the time,” she considers. But she soon loses herself in the potent aftereffects of her ongoing present state of mind.
“Outline” is the first stepping stone to her new album, currently in the works.
