Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

The journey to self-love doesn’t come without some self-loathing. We’re all combating demons on a daily basis; they just manifest in varied forms. Once a particular threshold is reached, one of great enlightenment and self-compassion, a whole new world opens up before us. Indie-pop storyteller Axel Mansoor, who earned a 2018 Daytime Emmy nomination in Best Original Song in a Drama for his work on General Hospital, syncs up his feelings on the breezy finger-snapper called “Mine.” His convictions slip off his tongue in funkadelic drips and exudes a calming warmth. “Oh, we’ve been here before / You whisper in my ear / Sweet nothings disappear / I won’t do this anymore,” he convinces to let self-inflicted toxicity to fade away. And they do – into a puffing, guitar-flaked starburst. It’s hopeful without confronting the hard issues of mental strain and personal growth (and accepting it all without judgement).

“Mine” is the latest in a string of singles this year, including “London Grey.”
