Taste Test: BabyJake lets off steam with ‘Confidant’
The singer-songwriter confronts his pain in unapologetic fashion.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones.
BabyJake‘s new song “Confidant” oozes an abrasive lyric. There’s a reason for it, too: he’s been burned way too many times. One particularly excruciating wound is still swollen and red. “I want to love you / But I can’t no more,” he agonizes over his pain. “Don’t hit my phone late at night / Don’t call me up more than twice / I’m not your friend / Not your only confidant,” he sings, the hook really sticking to the roof of the mouth. He makes his intentions quite clear, also making sure to depict (in graphic detail) the exact source of when it all went screwy. BabyJake is nothing if not true and honest.
