Taste Test: Bad Flamingo light the world on ‘Fire’
The mysterious Americana duo swerve between country & western and glossy swagger on a new song.

Irish poet and playwright Oscar Wilde is quoted as saying, “Give a man a mask, and he will tell you the truth.” The phrase can certainly be interpreted as many things, most of all the allure and mystique that comes with making art. Wild, Wild West outlaws Bad Flamingo firmly hide behind such a notion; their entire aesthetic is drenched in country & western style and mood. On their new single “Fire,” which is starkly etched in the spirit of Roy Orbison, not unlike the current work of Orville Peck, the pair galavant across the wide expanses of scorched, barren earth in search of a higher meaning. Maybe it’s love, maybe it’s danger lurking just out of reach. “I’ll do anything / Oh, oh, oh / I got fire for you,” they swoon, the melody feeling right out of a John Wayne action thriller. Their musical traces also dip between Nancy Sinatra and the film noir, a performance altogether addicting and bold.
“Fire” is set to appear in tonight’s (July 10) episode of Yellowstone on the Paramount Network.
