Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
I don’t usually review songs without lyrics on Taste Test but for such a stunning song, I will make an exception. Opening with static-filled synth repetitions, Bloomfield Machine catches your attention right out of the gate. The harsh sounds and distortions and beeps convey an unsettling sci-fi vibe which is jarring at first, before the melody sweeps you off your feet. It is dirty and it growls through the sharps and flats, but oddly satisfying. Midway through, the heavier dirty sounds fall away leaving more acoustic guitar and more ambient ethereal sounds. Everything suddenly sounds more natural. You can easily picture a lonely vessel wandering through space before disappearing into the black. At 2 minutes, “MicroAgression” is a short track, but one that leaves a distinct impression. If you like synthwave rock or more experimental music, I would highly recommend giving Bloomfield Machine and their album Units of Uncertainty a try.
