Taste Test: Bob Simpson weathers the storm on ‘Til I Find My Way Back Home’
Texas folk artist climbs out of darkness with a cut from his new EP.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones.
We can bid our time for only so long. Destiny will catch up to us, eventually, and as we grow older, life comes into clearer, crisper focus. Texas troubadour Bob Simpson once suffered at the severe hands of an unnamed illness, drained and unsure if music would ever come again, his spirit fading faster than the dusk. He soon was able to crawl out from underneath the boulder and emerge with his new EP, The Emperor’s New Moon. With vital cut “‘Til I Find My Way Back Home,” a downcast soul-stirring ballad in which Simpson’s caramel tenor glistens, the singer-songwriter bemoans the struggle as a cathartic release until his time comes to step triumphantly into the sun. “I’ve been trying to dig myself out of this place I’ve been in,” he sings in stark misery. But he’s here now. He’s an armor-clad warrior staring down his demons with remarkable heart.
The Emperor’s New Moon is out now.
