If you’re lucky, you have a handful of close friends who’ll get you through life’s various rough patches. When you’re star begins to truly shine bright, acquaintances and opportunists creepy-crawl out of the woodwork. Americana singer-songwriter Brian Lambert knows better. With “Got Me Through,” a pluck-toothed guitar jam, featuring Phillip Peebles of the Old 97’s, he differentiates between the two contrasting pools. “I remember when I was down / How you picked me up and stuck around,” he sings. While he certainly could be bitter about those folks who only latched onto him in the upswing, he never once lingers on the malice. He’s simply stating the tea-scalding facts. “You, yeah you, you got me through,” he rallies behind his trusty comrades. It’s a performance of warmth, charm and celebration, and once again, Lambert is one helluva storyteller.
“Got Me Through” serves as the third single from Lambert’s forthcoming new album, expected in 2020.
