C. Daniel Boling compiles self-written folk songs for his 10th studio album. Released in late 2024, Love, Dan is a cobblestone of personal songs and wide-sweeping ones that will wiggle into your eardrums. Even “Maya, I Adore You” evokes a charming declaration of embracing the things that give us joy in life. For Boling, that’s his granddaughter Maya and her wild pigtails and bright eyes.

With the song’s breezy pitter-patter — courtesy of musicians Kelly Mulhollan (mandolin, drums) and Char Rothschild (tin whistles) — it breaks open the chest and plucks the heartstrings. It’s a lovely, endearing, and totally addicting wind-swept tune that’ll warm you down to your toes. “There are many wonders in this world, and grandchildren are right up at the top of the list,” he says, adding that he and his frequent collaborator Tom Paxton “wrote this little ditty for my one and only… little red-headed, bright-as-a-brand-new-penny Maya.”

Love, Dan is out now on Berkalin Records.
