Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

“We all have our demons,” English folksmith Caoilfhionn (pronounced “Keelin”) Rose proposes in frank fashion on her song called “Being Human.” It’s a blissful, rose-tinted ballad about uncovering peace amidst terribly ruffled, crunchy layers of existence, and sometimes, we have to discard that which is tragic for that which is lush and comforting. The visual is appropriately golden in hue and gazes into Rose’s own expedition of life, situated on the bright, dazzling landscape of Fletcher Moss Park in Manchester. The reedy flakes of the earth shimmer in the late afternoon sun, which pierces both the horizon and the camera, and Rose simply is awash in every color of light and life. “I like being human,” she sings. In such a vulnerable state, she is capable in admitting that even the most devastating moments are quite necessary. Percussion babbles as a mountain brook, foresting through the brush and moss-laden stones, and her voice remains sturdy, yet angelic.

“Being Human” anchors her latest album, Awaken, out everywhere now.
