Taste Test: Carrie Welling and Alex Wong join forces to explore their demons in ‘Monster’

Nashville singer-songwriters explore the light and dark sides of life

Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Heavy but melodic, deep yet relatable, Carrie Welling and Alex Wong are experts at contrasting things that seem to be opposites at first glance. This is evident in their latest song ‘Monster’. Welling’s angelic voice paired with unrelenting electric guitars and a impactful drumbeat is the perfect mix of sweet and savoury. ‘Monster’ is one of two versions, dark and light, each with the same lyrics but portraying a different side of the struggle inside us all. The dark version expresses itself through the pop-rock genre, “representing the demons we push down and keep hidden.” The light ‘Monster’ has a much more delicate and acoustic tone “exposes the beauty contained in our darkest parts when we choose to see them without judgement.” Make sure to check out both halves of this ying/yang musical duo for the full experience!
