You think you’re supposed to do certain things, a set of societal constructs about work, life, and love. What you’ll quickly realize, certainly once you hit 30 or so, is that doing those things doesn’t make you happy. In fact, it can lead to a pretty sorrowful life. Folk duo Cass & Crossland imagine a character named “Adeline,” who wades water in her search for happiness and what it means to be fully alive. “Why can’t you be happy, Adeline?” singer Alex Crossland begs. His voice deceives you; it’s not necessary packed with only melancholy but serves as a sharp rallying cry. If you don’t change now, when will you? As far as debut singles go, wowza, the Phoenix duo knock a home run.
