Death is brutal, relentless, and inevitable. We must confront it sooner or later, and you can never be ready for it. Indie folk duo Cass & Crossland handle themes of death and grieving with raw beauty on their new song. “The Death of Maggie Simon” may not be inspired by anyone in particular; rather, it’s about the emotional waves that crash inside your brain in the aftermath. Strings prance delicately in the arrangement, almost pinning it all to the earth’s rusty shell, yet their voices glide up into the clouds. “Did you ever try and tell somebody you were gone / Or do I want to know?” We may never know the answers to life’s burning questions.
“The Death of Maggie Simon” bookends the duo’s new self-titled EP, out everywhere now.
