Taste Test: Charlotte OC finds ‘Freedom’ in the fallout
The pop newcomer leaves another indelible mark with a dark-pop enchanter.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones.
Sometimes, we can only find ourselves by embracing the fall. In spiraling down into an unknown abyss, we then unlock redemption, in whatever form that might be. Singer-songwriter Charlotte OC witnesses her body tangle with inescapable darkness, almost flying out of herself, before light pierces through the web-like cavern. “There’s freedom in the falling/ Hanging in the air, nowhere but down,” she calls into a whirlwind of synths beckoning her further on unexpected path. “Into the deep / Where shallow thoughts won’t reach me,” she sings. Even as the beat grows thick, and her voice waxes faint, there is an electricity emerging in clouds of dust.
“Freedom” samples Charlotte OC’s forthcoming new EP, Oh the Agony, Oh the Ecstasy, expected later this year.
