Taste Test: Chloe Lilac struck with reality on new song, ‘High School’
The electro-pop newcomer explores burgeoning adulthood, as she casts her youth aside.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
It’s hard to grow up. Creatures of habit, we often cling valiantly to youth – and our high school days are what we remember most, for better or worse. We can’t fight it, and sometimes, we just have to let the bittersweetness flood our lungs. Electro-pop upstart Chloe Lilac ponders those days with relief. “High School” emits a radiant and intoxicating glow, and she’s not waxing fondly on those four years of her life. While the pressure flutters from her shoulders, there is a lace of poison casting a blur around the edges of her life. “This isn’t my future / Just wait until sunrise,” she sings. With the first rays of a new beginning, the past fades away into a rosy pink hue. Lilac tosses it all back into her mental trove of things that are, quite frankly, of no use to her now.
“High School” samples her new, yet-untitled, EP.
