Taste Test: Cleopatra Degher offers remarkable love song with ‘Red-Eye’
The folk singer-songwriter writes in simple, but memorable, poetry.

Love songs are typically sticky sweet and lacking in careful details. One of mankind’s most basic, instinctual emotions is painted with broad brushstrokes to be universal. Ultimately, and quite ironically, they are devoid of heart and potency. Folk singer-songwriter Cleopatra Degher‘s “Red-Eye,” however, mines the tingling rush of new-found romance in a way that is breathless and passionate. She swaddles the listener in a skillfully textured vocal, her silky phrasing often wrapping you even tighter. “I never seen a face like yours before” slips from her lips in the final stanza. It’s in such simplicity from which true poetry flows; Degher’s voice and guitar prance upon a sun-strewn skyline, images forever lingering on the mind.
“Red-Eye” is featured on Degher’s latest EP, Watershed, released last month.
