Clifford has long been independent, buried in his work. And he’s had little time, or even patience, for love. Well, that suddenly all changed, and he put pen to paper to write about it. “Paradox” finds him wrestling against a hunger to be free and that swelling feeling of new-fond love and adoration — it’s nearly primal and he can’t think of anything (or anyone) else. “This bed has never been so cold / It’s you again and I wanna hold you, show you,” he crows. “That I’d do anything for ya…” A surprising jolt of country guitar cries behind his voice, a slick genre fusion that fits him like a glove. It’s a certified hoedown banger.
