Taste Test: Corey Kilgannon juggles contradiction on new song, ‘The Oasis’
The indie-folk tunesmith dissects contrasting parts of himself on his new song.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstone
We’re born into dichotomies. Life and death. Joy and sorrow. Triumph and failure. When you really get down to it, we’re a ball of contradictions just trying to weather this weary so-called life. Indie-folk storyteller Corey Kilgannon splices himself in two and dissects the two equal halves of his being on his new song. “The Oasis,” a sweet whistle tune if you’ve ever heard one, quickly escalates into a downright entrancing honky-tonk saloon-spun anthem, a chorus of fellow establishment-shakers included. “I’ve been cruel, and I’ve been gentle / I’ve done the drugs, and I’ve been judgmental,” he bares his heart with sweet breathiness. He soon melts away into the tender tears of his acoustic guitar, but in the end, he comes to accept his naturally-complicated character.
“The Oasis” is the second single from Kilgannon’s upcoming album, As Above So Below, out later this summer.
