Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

The past will never let you be. You can only run for so long, perhaps abandoning any sense of who you once were, and when you least expect it, it seeps back into your life. British singer-songwriter County Line Runner, who first caught our eye last summer, feels former traumas and darkness inch along his skin, collecting goosebumps in their wake. “Cold Dawn” is an exquisitely sobering performance, a tender giddy-up peeking through the layers, and his voice quivers with angst in his attempts to confront it all, once and for all. “You see, his old man / He talks so loose / His words, they hang / Just like a noose,” he carves his words into the dangerously macabre reality. The images tower over him, and the electric guitar cries out in the night, punctuating the emotional gravity. He may never be the same again.

“Cold Dawn” is the latest in a string of singles this year, including “Saw You in a Dream.”
