Taste Test: Curse of Lono succumb to ‘Blackout Fever’ with new live version
The blues-rock band give their examination of detox a searing live rendition.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones.
Detox from addiction can be the most grueling procedures in recovery. It’s only the first step to new life, but it comes with its own taxing effects, often further draining the human form of all energy and vivacity. Re-stamping their own story in a live setting, London’s Rag Tag Studios an apt backdrop, blues-rock five-piece Curse of Lono squirm under the skin with a new version of “Blackout Fever,” the emotion hanging right at your ear lobes. “There’s something missing in your eyes / Got no time to empathize,” crows the band, allowing the hook to bounce around a bit before soaring into the sun. “Slow buzz, soft fuzz / Tell me what you came here for” distorts and pings off electric guitar before settle down, too. Together, the English band strut out a confident, yet harrowingly brutal, examination of clawing out of misery. And as a live performance piece, it hits much harder than you could possibly anticipate.
The new reworking of “Blackout Fever” samples the band’s upcoming 4am and Counting.
