We all get stuck like glue in our daily routines. The familiar is comfortable. And it can also lead to stagnation. Blues-soaked Americana singer-songwriter Dan Zlotnick yanks back the reigns and charges ahead into the unexpected. On the plucky, slightly off-kilter “Autopilot,” he cultivates strong gospel roots with a country-rock swing, opting for syncopation on the verses and an electrifying guitar line. “I throw the blankets off me / I pour myself some coffee / I let the sun softly wash my face,” he sings with wry smile. The hook sweeps in like a gust of wind and envelopes the listener in Zlotnick’s caramel sweetness. It’s exhilarating, and what a way to kickstart a Monday!
“Autopilot” is ripped from Zlotnick’s new album, Day 3, out everywhere now.
