Loss’ll hollow you out. It’s the cold blade of fate puncturing your lungs and twitching in your skin. It’s that aching, yet quite empty, heart that can never be satisfied. Folk singer-songwriter Day Felice ⏤ real name is David Lindström, most known for his role on HBO’s Vikings ⏤ lets his body float out and away from himself into an ethereal, but brutally arresting, cloud of anguish. With “Silence,” an elegantly decorated piano ballad, droplets of acoustic guitar wringing dry in the background, he stages a performance that is solemn, but its shell is gilded with theatrics that peep through curtained layers. Such an approach simply heightens the urgency and the suffocation that comes with weighted life experiences. Lindström is the kind of storyteller much of modern pop music lacks. “Let go of mournful melodies, please…”
“Silence” is ripped from Lindström’s debut album, Go On, out everywhere now.
