Taste Test: Delafaye leaves the world behind with ‘Godspeed’
The alt-rocker leaves his entire existence behind in the aftermath of a breakup.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones.
The air was suffocating him down to a near-cellular level. Louisville alt-rocker Delafaye (real name Andrew Shockley) turns his back on the only existence he has ever endured. His voice is a heaving rasp of gravel and dirt that’s got caught in his lungs, and as he dislodges the chunks of his life, he eyes a new purpose. With “Godspeed,” he literally embarks on a space mission to discard all his humanly troubles, those of a soured-milk relationship and other now-seemingly frivolous worries, to the trail of stardust emitting into the heavens. The music video is a granular vision of the kind of misery many don’t actually experience, but here is Shockley wielding his pain for the world to see. “Hey lady, I got left for this washed up game we play / It’s a goddamn shame,” he mourns, droplet tears plopping upon the rumbling of his electric guitar.
Delafaye’s self-titled debut record is expected this fall on Street Mission Records.
