Heartbreak connects us all. Drawing upon his own deep-seated misery, singer-songwriter Drew Schueler holds the two halves of his shattered heart in his hands. With “Head Start,” a trickling piano ballad, his tears fall as a waterfall does, cascading down his cheeks and onto the ivories themselves. His voice never wavers, as smooth as silk, but the pain echoes across every single syllable. “Placing blame on picture frames / But I can’t take them off the walls,” he weeps. His struggle to let the past go, yet not erase it totally, swells down to his joints. He may never be free; time will tell. “Now, I’m standing here with a broken heart / You gotta way with a head start,” he relays on the hook.
