No matter how hard you fight it, love might never be enough. It’s the dichotomy of unabashedly unconditional love and feeling suffocated by it. It all works out like it’s supposed to, though. Shifting between indie-rock and bluesy pop, singer-songwriter Dylan Perkons learns his love will never be strong to keep a romance alive – his guitar is his way of coping, declaring to the world of his agony. “If My Love’s a Burden” is explored through Perkons’ idle state in the accompanying visual, directed by Derek Janzen, who squeezes out every possible emotion in the camerawork. “I know what all your friends say / And maybe they’re right / It’s you that has to live, so it’s you that should decide,” he sings. His grasp abruptly loosens, as the truth settles as crisp snow on his shoulder blades, and it all only adds to the weight he is fated to carry, forevermore.

“If My Love’s a Burden” is lifted from Perkons’ new album, The Healing Day, out everywhere now.
