She was climbing out, out, out of a gnarly and dark depression. Air filled her lungs like she’d never known, so she put pen to paper to write about the refreshing bubbles caressing her cheeks. Electro-pop songwriter Ella Vos confronts her self-sabotaging nature with a song called “Dreaming, backwards,” a delicate yet profoundly heavy kickstarter. Vos’ voice is reliably heavenly, a feathered, soft coating to it as she glides and shapeshifts on the melody. “Always coasting, been on cruise control / Flipping quarters, never sure when to go,” she draws her words like faded watercolors, dripping down onto crumbled notebook paper. A heartbeat swiftly bounces into the mix, add in a driving propulsion to her story. It all soon falls away, as her confessions ignite from within and light it all on fire.
“Dreaming, backwards” samples her brand new album, Turbulence, out everywhere now.
