Taste Test: Elodie Rêverie chases down her very own ‘Gold Rush’
The alt-pop arrival configures the 1800s gold rush as a journey into dream chasing on a new song.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
There comes a time in life when you’ve got a choice to make: you can either stale in your stagnation or bound out of a hopeless life and chase the setting sun. Calling to the California Gold Rush of the 1800s, alt-pop arrival Elodie Rêverie tunes her heart into the latter, a decision that has not only tested her mettle but gifted an arsenal of determination and keen self-awareness. Her suitably-titled new song “Gold Rush,” filtered through a vibrating prism of trip-hop, synths and piano, entrances and emanates an addictive fluorescence. “The gold was buried inside of us,” she sings, as much as her own discovery as an urgent prayer to the listener. The classically-trained musician turns the landmark historical event into a journey of dreams and making the distinct choice to live the only life worth living: one of pure passion. And we all should heed her sage advice.
“Gold Rush” is just the beginning of her adventures in 2019.
