Hometowns can be both “comforting” and “suffocating,” as singer-songwriter Embla Karidotter describes it. That emotional tug-of-war anchors her brand new song called “Bergen Blues,” featuring a bevvy of musicians in her backing band. Properly called Embla and the Karidotters, Karidotter’s solo endeavor comes after more than a decade of playing drummer of Razika. When that collective split, the musician found herself smack dab at a crossroads, two paths forging vastly different directions and opportunities. “I’m leaving today / I keep telling myself that I have to stray / But I end up not getting that far,” she crows of her hometown’s unshakeable gravitational pull.
