Complacency is complicity in the year of our Lord 2019. There’s no other option (especially if you’re straight and White) than to get your hands dirty and dig your heels into the soil caked in blood and innocent life. Born of the Texas red dirt, now a NYC ramblin’ man, folk singer-songwriter Evan Alexander Moore channels his anger into no-fucks-given protest song called “Our Time,” in which he encourages his fellow Americans to “look your representatives in the teeth,” he spits. His venom is well-earned, and he makes his intentions known, plainly and fearlessly. “Look your friends in the eye / Tell ’em how much you need them by your side,” he sings, allowing compassion to become a key component to his approach. But that doesn’t mean you let evil doers to trample all over you. Oh no, you march straight into battle with your hearts completely exposed and a mission for change worn on your armor.
“Our Time” leads Moore’s new album, The Perennial Millennial, out later this year.
