Disillusionment comes into stark focus with blues/rock band E.Z. Shakes‘ new single. “Making Mistakes” is a spooky meditation on humanity’s clawing desperations to grasp onto notions or beliefs that are simply unattainable. “Have you ever killed a man, drank his blood like wine?” ponders frontman Zach Seibert. Such a macabre question isn’t about literally drinking someone’s blood; here, he makes reference to such religious sacraments as communion. If you really think about it, it is such a strange ritual praciticed in many Christian sectors, an act of contrition and loyalty. Seibert also struggles with a much grander journey as a man, riddled with mistakes and flaws, and what forgiveness actually means.
“Making Mistakes” samples the band’s new album, The Spirit, arriving October 9.
