Taste Test: Fake Shark have an undeniable ‘L-ectric Touch’
The indie pop-rock band send a jolt to the system with an animated video.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
There are songs that’ll shock you awake. Fake Shark‘s “L-ectric Touch” is such a system-jolting pop-rock zig-zagger. “Can you keep a secret / Have you ever taken a leap of faith / Can you shock me babe like a lightning bolt, electrify me like a thousand volts,” vocalist Kevvy Mental emits static from his tongue. Originally hitting our radar last fall with “Invincible,” it’s quite clear this band is not messing around. Their sharp, genre-melting configurations tingle the senses and send necessary vitamins into the blood stream. “Crush, go ahead and shock me with your electric crush / Touch, electrify me with your electric touch,” he sends up his invitation, clanging against a wall-to-wall of sound. It’s so good, you just might accept. The animated visual, directed by H. Dougherty, accepts the natural quirk, full-stop, as a two-headed Audrey II clomps around town. It’s silly enough just to work.
“L-ectric Touch” samples the band’s new EP, House of Mirrors, out everywhere now.
