Welcome to Freshly Squeezed, a weekly new music playlist: spanning country, pop, EDM and urban, mainstream and other.
Nashville duo City Silos shed their folksy ways for a more volatile pop-rock blend. “Give It to Me Straight,” the first taste of their upcoming new album, sees singer Kristen Butler wield her vocal cords as a set of steel carving knives. Her tone melts the creamy butter that is guitar wailing against the drums’ own howls and lashes. Musician and partner Chris Butler pricks the instruments to creep and crawl, tangling together into a scaly might-morphing creature that won’t be tamed. The new album titled Happy Thoughts is set to drop at the end of August.
Grimly haunting a space between alternative and pop, Lola Coca emerges from such a musical ooze with the tenderly trickling sonic splash “Staring into the Sun.” A voice both smoldering and unfussy, she allows the instruments to creak and clatter around her, building into an Alice in Wonderland-whipped mind trip. Just over three minutes, the doozy of a number quickly evaporates into a body-numbing round of true psychedelia. It’ll wake up every one of your senses, while casting a poppy-like haze over your very eye lids.
The comeback lineup includes tracks from Bronze Avery, Leland Sundries, Oh, Be Clever, Summer Salt, Sasha McVeigh, Vince Gill, Levi Hummon, Eli Raybon, Alt Bloom, Marielle Kraft, Midland, Lillie Mae and many others!
In all, we’ve got 30 new tracks to shock your system. Get to listening!
