Freshly Squeezed, Vol. 129: HOAX, Mandy Moore, Mickey Guyton & more
Enjoy new songs from Neon Dreams, Oh Jeremiah, Luke Cloutier, Brandy Clark, Gone West, and more!
Welcome to Freshly Squeezed, a weekly new music playlist: spanning country, pop, EDM and urban, mainstream and other.
HOAX are building a musical empire ⏤ brick-by-brick, song-by-song. A new cut called “more than you know” weighs frontman Mike Raj’s observations of dating ⏤ juxtaposing his parents’ more traditional pairing and modern dating apps. “I will not run / I will not hide,” he curves his deep tenor along a silky rumble. “Where ever you go / I’m going the same.” A melancholy and shimmer tangle together, a heaviness seeping into the lyric, the production going down easy, and the performance shoots across the sky.
Mickey Guyton has guts. Her song “What Are You Gonna Tell Her?,” which she debuted last month at Nashville’s CRS, is a searing, emotional, and pointed takedown of the treatment of woman ⏤ manipulation that begins at birth. “Do you just let her pretend that she could be the president?” is one of many questions proposed. Guyton’s voice thickens with pain and once again cements her role as one of today’s most important artists. “Do you tell her not to fight? Is it worth the sacrifice?”
The new playlist also includes Courtney Marie Andrews, Fickle Friends, Oh Jeremiah, Neon Dreams, Dixie Chicks, Lauren Alaina, Luke Cloutier, Gone West, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, Mandy Moore, Brandy Clark, Lauv, and many more!
In all, we’ve got 30 new tracks to get you pumping for the freakin’ weekend. Get to listening!
