Freshly Squeezed, Vol. 141: Phoebe Bridgers, POZZI, Ashe, Amy Shark & more
Enjoy new songs from Emma White, Michael Franti, Terry Ohms, Gabby Barrett, John Legend, and more!
Welcome to Freshly Squeezed, a weekly new music playlist: spanning country, pop, EDM and urban, mainstream and other.
Phoebe Bridgers crushes you with her lyrics before you even realize what’s happening. Nearly three years after her wondrously devastating 2017 debut, Stranger in the Alps, which pairs rather nicely with the film A Ghost Story, as we’ve laid out here, the existentialist doubles down on the darkest parts of living. Punisher packs a severe upper cut, and “Halloween” is downright suffocating, invigorating, moving, soothing, unnerving, and brittle to the core. Start there, and work your way outward.
In throes of a long-overdue reckoning, indie-rock singer-songwriter POZZI joins the flood of white artists using their platform and craft to speak on important issues. His new song “Tyrant” is bristled and pointed as you might expect on title alone; its bleached wash of fuzzy electric guitar compliments the frankness of his vocal. “Feels like I’m losing mind,” he confides in his search for truth in between a certain leader’s dangerous rhetoric. “Some tyrants come from within / While others can look like your kin,” he underscores. The call often comes from inside the house. Destruction is happening, and we must speak out. It’s now or never.
The latest list of badassery includes songs from Ashe, Sara Rachele, Terry Ohms, Radnor & Lee, Amy Shark, John Legend, Josh Turner, Gabby Barrett, The Highway Women, and many more!
In all, we’ve got 30 new tracks to soothe your mind during these terrible pandemic times. Insert heart emoji.
