Freshly Squeezed, Vol. 153: Sam Ritchie, Rodeo Glow, Katie Pruitt & more
Welcome to Freshly Squeezed, a weekly new music playlist: spanning country, pop, EDM and urban, mainstream and other.
“You’ve been running through my head,” sings Sam Ritchie in a half-slumbering daze. “September” is chilly to the touch, an appropriate musical doseage as we enter an already very crisp autumn. His voice soaks the skin with paraffin wax and soon casts your mentalspace into a simililar fog, sweeping from fleeting memory to the next. Always on the move, eer fleeting. Production is shatteringly frigid, and often, Ritchie’s voice pierces like an ice pick. “I didn’t know you could make me feel this way…” he observes.
A resident blog favorite, Whoa Dakota links up with Tuxedo Wildlife’s Collin Gundry to form Rodeo Glow. Their voices take swarthy root and spread like vines, twisting as one against an acoustic guitar’s warmth ⏤ lingering on the senses like a cat bathing in the morning light. With “Hollywood,” their debut single, they spin classic tear-stained steel with honeyed vocals that are unfussy yet irrestibly evocative. “And it’s really just getting good,” they swoon together like a ’60s prom king and queen twirling on the starlit dancefloor. Magical.
Joni‘s “Orange” sucks down sweet, an ambiant, low-rollwer with a helluva kick. “Touching you feels like forever ago,” she basks in the past. The rush, the skin-to-skin, the electric after glow, it all floods her head again and just as quickly dissipates. “I can’t let go,” she admits. Memories swept up together conjure a thick and stupifying cloud, from which she may never free.
The new playlist also includes Katie Pruitt, Cruel Hearts Club, Dyan Dunlap, Amy Allen, Joe Piotrowski, Charlotte Clark, Me Nd Adam, Elliot Jones, AlexZone, and many more!
In all, we’ve got 30 new tracks to soothe your mind during these terrible pandemic times. Insert heart emoji.
Each playlist will be refreshed every Friday or Saturday. We reserve the right to update anytime during the week, so make sure you bookmark this page.
