Welcome to Freshly Squeezed, a weekly new music playlist: spanning country, pop, EDM and urban, mainstream and other.
Well, 2020 can fuck all the way off. Truly. With the very last New Music Weekly here on B-Sides & Badlads of the year, we’ll take to celebrating some fantastic new songs, as well as some tinseled holiday tunes, to soothe our anxiety-addled minds.
Jessie Hyde is much like Fiona Apple. Hyde does what she wants, tossing several genres into her unique vocal blender, and seeing what she can make of it. “aquamafia,” from her new EP, first takes, drowns the senses with gurgling production, and her voice feels both serene and splashy, as she too seems to freestyle through rising tides with erratic elegance. “This bedroom is filling with water,” she croaks, bubbles fluttering around her. Hyde is the kind of artist the world seems to be sleeping on… and whyyyyyyyyyy.
The Blue Iris lets their voice pound the skull. On a new song called “Something’s Wrong,” they boldly and brashly exposure their punkish stylings through a chilling rasp, gutting emotion, and electric guitars that just won’t quit. “The room is spinning now,” they sing. Their voice is spectral-like, seemingly tortured and haunted and trapped in purgatory, yet it still pierces clean through you.
The last playlist of 2020 also includes Aaron LaCombe, Suzie Chism, The King’s Parade, Grey Watson, Brett Cameron, Gin Wigmore, Kara Frazier, Heartracer, and many more!
In all, we’ve got 30 new tracks to soothe your mind during these terrible pandemic times. Insert heart emoji.
Each playlist will be refreshed every Friday or Saturday. We reserve the right to update anytime during the week, so make sure you bookmark this page.
