Freshly Squeezed, Vol. 49: Lucie Silvas, XYLØ, Stela Cole & More
Enjoy new songs from ROZES, Mallrat, Karen Jonas, Chuck Westmoreland, Owl City, Drinker and more!
Welcome to Freshly Squeezed, a weekly new music playlist: spanning country, pop, EDM and urban, mainstream and other.
British singer-songwriter Lucie Silvas owns the sky. 2015’s Letters to Ghosts remains among that year’s best achievements. After a long-long-long-long-long (times infinity) ass hiatus, the blues-pop storyteller arrives with “Kite,” a soul-crushing boot-stomper worthy of our upmost attention. In classic Silvas fashion, she slithers between genres like a paralyzing cobra, spitting venom along each guitar stroke and jaunty rollicking flip. Tami Neilson spooks up a ghoulish good time with “Devil in a Dress,” while pop’s most volatile weapon Allie X crumbles our hearts with furious “Focus.” Haley Reinhart pulls a swift folky moment with “Last Kiss Goodbye,” feeling ripped from a time gone by.
As is our way, the brand new Freshly Squeezed playlist zigs from Karen Jonas, XYLØ, THE WLDLFE and John Santiago to Mazie and Chuck Westmoreland before zagging profusely between Neko Case, The 1975, Night Owls, American Aquarium, ROZES, Wild Pink, Owl City and Meg Myers, among numerous other stylistic punches to the head. With the first half of 2018 in the home stretch, music has never felt more alive, buttered and baked in vulnerable and moving songwriting and beats so heavy, you’ll need a dozen mules to get you through.
Stela Cole drops an irrefutably soon-to-be massive debut single called “You F O,” and B-Sides & Badlands favorites Fly by Midnight continue flexing their sinewy (musical) muscles in the air. The new music weekly lineup also includes Lucy Neville, El Ten Eleven, Iris Gold, Drinker, Third Party, Ben Howard, Spencer Ludwig, The Mountain Carol, Just Loud, Mallrat, Alex Clare, Rura and St. Vincent, and many, many others.
In all, we’ve got 50 new tunes to get you through the day and well into the waining weekend hours.
Each playlist will be refreshed every Friday morning/afternoon. We reserve the right to update anytime during the week, so make sure you bookmark this page.
