Freshly Squeezed, Vol. 53: Kelleigh Bannen, Wolfi, Devin Kennedy & more
Enjoy new songs from NONONO, Roosevelt, The Wild Feathers, The Blaze, Midland, lovelytheband and more!
Welcome to Freshly Squeezed, a weekly new music playlist: spanning country, pop, EDM and urban, mainstream and other.
Kelleigh Bannen is getting her time in the sun with a mini-EP of should-be hits. The Joneses is stacked with a 1-2-3 punch of songs, including the hip-hop-dipped “John Who” and the acoustic-cut weeper “Happy Birthday.” She’s always been criminally-underrated, but things are turning in her favor, as SiriusXM The Highway has picked up playing her more these days. Terrestrial radio is the pits, but Bannen has carved out her own little niche. She’s a blog favorite, and it’s quite reassuring more and more folks are coming around to her brand of pop-country. The title song is also a jam, just ripe for the impending summer swelter and excursions out to the lake. Pump those speakers up, guysssssssss.
Alt-pop tunesmith Wolfi roars back with a stalwart anthem called “Invincible,” which he co-wrote with Grover Braam, and it pulsates in all the right spots. His voice is silky, and don’t be surprised if you swoon a lil bit. Another promising upstart named Devin Kennedy makes another bid to steal our hearts with the moody, vibe-hard “Body,” while Runaway June declare they can “Buy My Own Drinks.” The Wild Feathers delight with one of the year’s best studio sets (keep your eyes peeled on our Best Albums of 2018 So Far list coming next week); David Nail keeps things a bit “Heavy”; and Mason Ramsey proves he’s got the chops with another traditional-bent tune called “Jambalaya (on the Bayou),” off his just-pressed Famous EP.
Ahead of July 4th, the new Freshly Squeezed playlist overflows with the best of alternative country, hip-hop, indie-rock and folk. You’ll find new cuts from such standouts as Jeffery Austin, NONONO, Roosevelt, Jonny Zywiciel, Natalie Holmes, Midland, Randy Houser, HONNE, Ryan Ashley, Jacob & Fanny, The Blaze, Wild Moccasins, Hattie Briggs, Love and Theft, mylittlebrother, Delta Sleep, Florence + the Machine, Salim Nourallah, Bat and Ball, Sheryl Crow, Charli XCX, All Time Low, Mason Ramsey, lovelytheband, Let’s Eat Grandma and XYLØ, among many others.
In all, we’ve got 50 new songs to get your spirit pumping for the holiday week coming full steam ahead.
