Welcome to Freshly Squeezed, a weekly new music playlist: spanning country, pop, EDM and urban, mainstream and other.
We’ve been anxiously awaiting Jessica Meuse‘s debut album for what feels like an eternity. Today, we are blessed with Halfhearted, a set that is far from half-hearted. It is produced and performed with great care, as if the world’s very axis depends on it. And it does, in a way. From such previous primers as “Done,” which Meuse performed way back in her American Idol days, and “Rio Grande,” she’s always maintained an unmistakable identity founded on God’s honest truth songwriting. The 15-track bow is glued together with her classically-reedy timbre, and picking just one song to kick off our new playlist was a behemoth of a task. But we settled on “Relapse,” a dizzying recount of a love that made her woozy in the head. It’s fiery, collapsing and worthy of the bleached-out neons of the honky-tonk circuit.
RØMANS then hurls a fistful of sparkling “Glitter and Gold” into the air, a ravishing display of rhythms broken into pieces and bound together once again. Jamie Lin Wilson samples her new album Jumping Over Rocks with a song called “The Being Gone,” which sees her brooding on the gravity of touring life and being so far from home. XYLØ downs the shots with scratchy flickers of heartache on “I Don’t Want to See You Anymore,” a resolve to stay away from her ex. Adult Karate‘s “This Night” bangs and clangs on fuzzy-headed perceptions of romance with abandon.
The new playlist also generously drip-drops with Jordie Lane, Petrie, Sister Sparrow, Amanda Shires, Party Hardly, Caitlyn Smith, Joey Sweeney & the Neon Grease, Olivia Castriota, Will Hoge, Emma Zander, Sarah White, ARIZONA, James New, Dustin Tebbutt and Goldilox, among many others.
In all, we’ve got 30 new songs spin and spin and spin some more.
Each playlist will be refreshed every Friday morning/afternoon. We reserve the right to update anytime during the week, so make sure you bookmark this page.
