Welcome to Freshly Squeezed, a weekly new music playlist: spanning country, pop, EDM and urban, mainstream and other.
We’re constantly connected but detached for ourselves. Sinking into that lonesome feeling that is somehow exacerbated by spinning social media feeds and the barrage of media, electro-pop singer Krysta Youngs finds herself put through the wringer. “Disconnected,” in all its distorted, glitter-pop magnificence, pulls her into a world that’s cold and distant, as if cutting the last strings of humanity with a very large pair of rusted kitchen scissors. When the beat drops and her voice pours through a filter, you get both an insane amount of emotion and a raw and disturbing echo that sends goosebumps right to your brain.
Francesca Brown packs a soulful punch, bruising our jaws in the process, with “Honey I’m a Woman,” am empowered Americana track that utilizes her skill to mesmerizing effect. From the guitar’s roaring wails to the giddy hand claps to her nuanced but razor-sharp phrasing, there’s not a moment wasted. In fact, it’ll knock you for a loop and right off your feet if you let it. And you should. You won’t regret it.
Jamie Lin Wilson is a national treasure, and in the lead up to her new record, Jumping Over Rocks, out next month, she captures the nature of fleeting moments in the grass looking up at the stars. Aptly-titled “Oklahoma Stars,” the gentle story impresses upon the listener the great significance of being aware and living like its your last day on earth. It’s a stark performance but one that is towering and inescapable. You’d be foolish not to learn a thing or two here today.
Jaunty pop duo Social Beingz draw upon the classicisms of earl-00s pop-punk, fusing with more prominent electric guitar, club-rave synths and beats that draw thicker and thicker to your consciousness. Meanwhile, Pale Waves finally, finally, finally delight us with their debut album, My Mind Makes Noises, and among their best moments is “Loveless Girl,” a scattering and psych-pop dream of beauty and sorrow.
The playlist also includes cuts from: Aidan Carroll, Coyle Girelli, Jackie Marshall, Kalandra, Luna Keller, Adalaide, XYLØ, Brooks Thomas, Dolly Parton with Sia, Haley Reinhart, First Aid Kit, Call Me Loop, Alex Clare and many others.
In all, we’ve got 30 new songs spin and spin and spin some more.
Each playlist will be refreshed every Friday morning/afternoon. We reserve the right to update anytime during the week, so make sure you bookmark this page.
