You never realize while you’re in it, really in it and nearly drowning, but once the clouds part, new possibilities await. Indie-folk singer-songwriter Gareth Inkster plays with this duality with his new song “Back Here Again,” in which he first broods on the initial unwinding before falling into a more “pedestrian” state, as he puts it. “Don’t be ashamed / To mention her name / You still can’t believe this is what it became,” he says to himself. The intimacy of the lyrics rub against the song’s otherwise high-flying production, as instruments crack open to reveal a sunnier underpinning.
“Back Here Again” samples a forthcoming EP.
